The Importance Of Having Good Data Backup Software
In order to fully protect your files you should be using data backup software. This software will allow you the ability to easily transfer the data to any type of device that you want - flash drive, hard drive, a remote server, a CD, and even an online data storage service.
There is no lack of devices that you can choose from.
A flash drive is pretty damn cool. I have all of my passwords, important word files and some various files on mine, but it's not meant for a large number of files. So if you are looking to save a lot of files on it then you will need something else. These flash drives range between 8MB to 2GB, and the price will be higher for a higher capacity flash drive.
Adding a second hard drive is a good way to backup a large amount of data. Purchasing a second hard drive is pretty cheap and easy to install. The only downfall to this form of data backup is if your computer was stolen then your data would be gone as well. It's a rare thing to happen, but it's not uncommon. Keeping your backup files on a CD is not always the best way, but it's not a horrible way. Think of how many times you put a CD in your computer and it doesn't work. They always seem to be scratched, and if you are storing important files you don't want to risk this happening. If you choose to backup your data to an online storage site you would still need a data backup software. To get full protection you would use the data backup software to create your backup file and then transfer it to your online storage site. These sites have their own program file transfer tool available on their site to make transferring your data easily, so you will not need your own FTP program. When using an online backup service you will want to be sure to transfer your data that you have changed. This service is not meant to transfer your entire hard drive, since you are depending on an internet connection. About two years ago I purchased an external hard drive thinking that I was doing a good thing protecting my files, until it stopped working. I can not get the darn thing to go on. I was so angry and frustrated because I had my entire portfolio and business presentation on their and now they were gone. What I learned from that is what I should have done is have two forms of backup. Many people today have a home computer and also a laptop. You don't want to forget to backup your laptop files. Purchasing the data backup software will make transferring your data much more time efficient and save you a lot of aggravation.
