How To Select The Best Tape Backup Software
Choosing a tape backup software can be a simple thing if you know what you want to it to do. Are you looking to purchase a single standalone system that has for the most part a small hard drive or is going to be a large hard drive?
These are some questions that you should have answered before you go and purchase your tape backup software or drive.
How much data will you be backing up? Is it your entire home computer, laptop or just a few files. You want your tape to be a larger capacity than what your data that you want backup is. This is to play it safe. You don't want to have to use two different tapes for your data. Your tape backup software will compress most of the data, but there are certain files that cannot be compressed down more than what they are, such as .gif, .jpg, etc… And it should be bigger to compensate for other files that you will add in the future.
Do you already have the equipment? If you already have the equipment then you need to purchase software that is compatible with it. The worst this is to have all the stuff connected and ready to go, only to find that it's not working. It would probably be a while before you realized that the software is not compatible. It's not fun. What is your budget? Knowing this will help to eliminate a lot of the tape backup software and hardware. The bigger the hard drive the more storage space you will need, and the more storage space that you need the more it cost. What do you want your software to be able to do? Do you want it to perform daily backups, nightly, weekly or monthly. Answering these questions you will be able to find the best tape drive and tape backup software that will meet all of you needs and save you a lot of time and money. Another good way to find the best software that stand through the test of time is from researching. Once you find a few different tape backup drives and software you should look them up on the internet, and find out what others are saying about it. There are tons of sites online that offer reviews on many products, I am sure you will be able to find the products that you think will fit your needs.
